Oware

Oware is the second game in the Africa volume from Lemery Games

The familiar small box with pouch containing the game.

Oware, from Ghana, is a bean game or sowing game, of the same game family as the Mancala game already in my collection. As a family, bean or sowing games go back thousands of years. The pieces in such games do not belong to either player, and thus can be played by both, with the aim being to capture more pieces than the opponent.

Cloth board and wooden pieces looking like seeds.

The reverse side of the board allows playing another bean game: Omweso from Uganda. This is a more complex game than Oware, having four rows of holes rather than two.

Two games for the price of one, and with the design quality I have come to expect from Lemery Games!
